Fukuoka. Two-time champion Japan survived a scare against Qualifier winner Brazil to win the World Baseball Classic opener in Fukuoka by a score of 5-3. Three runs in the top of the eighth turned a 2-3 deficit into the victory.

Fukuoka/Taichung. The 2013 World Baseball Classic got underway on Saturday with three games. In Taichung, Chinese Taipei defeated Australia and the Netherlands stunned Olympic champion Korea with a shutout. In Fukuoka two-time defending WBC champion Japan needed a late comeback to beat Qualifier winner Brazil.

Taichung. 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup winner Netherlands had a perfect start into the 2013 World Baseball Classic. They defeated Korea 5-0 behind a strong pitching performance in the evening game of day one of Pool B at Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung.

The first win in the 2013 World Baseball Classic goes to Chinese Taipei. They defeated Australia 4-1 in round 1 action from Taichung City on Saturday (March 2).

While the radar gun in Taichung, Taiwan was measuring fastballs in the Chinese Taipei-Australia game, the first contest of the tournament, the World Baseball Classic was getting off to an even faster start on the other side of the world.

For the third time after 2006 and 2009 the World Baseball Classic will be played from March 2 to March 19. Japan won the first two editions with wins over Cuba respective Korea in the title games.

World Baseball Classic, Inc. announced the final rosters submitted before the February 20th deadline by the 16 Baseball Federations participating in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Final rosters include up to 28 players. Provisional rosters were announced on January 17th.

MIYAZAKI – Japan manager Koji Yamamoto announced his 28-man roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic with few surprises on Wednesday as the two-time defending champs wrapped up their fifth day of training.

The Korea Baseball Association (KBA) held its ordinary congress on February 1, 2013. During the meeting Mr. Lee, Byung-Suk was elected as new KBA President. He is a deputy speaker at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and has been serving as a member of the National Assembly since 2000.
